LADUE, MO–KENNETH H. GRANT, who worked in the trucking industry here for nearly six decades, died Jan. 28, 1999, at St. John's Skilled Nursing Facility in Creve Coeur. He was 87 and lived in Ladue.
Mr. Grant was director of labor relations at Spector Freight System when he retired in 1976. Earlier, he was vice president and corporate secretary of Viking Freight Co., which merged with Spector.
He began his career in trucking in 1926 as a driver for the Schwartzmann Service Co. After retiring, he spent nine years as a consultant to trucking companies here, and he worked in sales for the Texas Refinery Corp.
He was a past president and director of the St. Louis Motor Carriers Council and a director and officer of the Missouri Kansas and Central States Motor Carriers Employer Conferences. He was active in the negotiation of labor contracts in the trucking industry for 50 years. He often sat at a negotiating table with the late Teamsters Union leader Jimmy Hoffa.
Mr. Grant was also active in the Manresa Society, the Daily World Missionaries, the Legion of 1000 West and White House Retreat.
Mr. Grant was born in Vanduser, Mo. He attended what is now Southeast Missouri State University and served as a sergeant in the Missouri National Guard before World War II.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bopp Chapel, 10610 Manchester Road. The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Annunziata Catholic Church, 925 Cella Road, Ladue. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
His wife of 61 years, Elizabeth Mary Grant, died Jan. 9.
Among the survivors are three sons, Dr. Kenneth E. Grant of Ladue, Dr. Kerry E. Grant of New Haven, Conn., and Dr. Kevin E. Grant of Rancho Cordova, Calif.; a daughter, Kathryn E. Grant-Davis of Tacoma, Wash.; and six grandchildren.

Frank Grant and Ara May Vaughan; grandson of Flournoy Willis Grant and Frances Marie Tupman; great grandson of William Mosby Grant and Mary Spillar Graves; great great grandson of John Grant and Mary Mosby; great great great grandson of William Grant II and Elizabeth Boone, sister of Daniel Boone, famed Kentucky explorer.
