Melvina's parents were John J Long (1801-1854) and Cynthia Moore (1811-1855). Her parent's deaths were in Yalobusha, Mississippi.

After her husband, Felix W Magee's death (thrown from a horse), Martha sold their plantation and moved to Texas with her 13 children. She was met in Indianola, Texas by Bluford Magee who transported the family to Dewville in Gonzales County, Texas.

Martha Long Magee paid fifty cents an acre for land stretching north of the Bartlett farm and east of Henry Wiley's farm toward the Hill school and the Bluford Magee land.

The two oldest sons had married in Mississippi. In the next few years the others married and left to establish their own homes. The children of Felix and Martha were:

John Samuel Magee married O.A. Morris and lived in Houston.

Cornelius Norflet Magee "Norf" married Julia McCuller.

Caroline N Magee never married and lived with some of the family of Magees at Grosbeck, Texas.

William "Sweet William" Rufus Magee married Martha Gardner, Gonzales County, Texas.

Andrew Jackson Magee married Mecilla Cone.

James Madison Magee married Jennie Evans and settled in Victoria County, Texas.

Thomas Newton Magee married Lavisa "Mandy" Alexander McCullar and lived in Victoria County, Texas.

Felix Doc Magee married M T Hill, 1888, Gonzales County, Texas.

Claybourne Magee married Sarah Oliver McNabb.

Felix "Doc" Magee married Mrs. M. T. Hill and settled in Goliad County, Texas.

Francis "Frank" Magee went to Victoria and married.

Supera Elizabeth Magee married a dentist Doctor Linnie Hensley and lived in Goliad County.

Monroe Suggs Magee married (1) Martha Hattie Moore and (2) Edna Earl Posey in Grayson County.
