Frank Z. Hersh, 73, of Mohnton R2, a retired farmer and former Brecknock Township supervisor, died unexpectedly Sunday morning at the Ephrata Community Hospital.

He was the husband of Irene E. Good Hersh, with whom he observed his 54th wedding anniversary on June 11, 1986.

On their 50th wedding anniversary, Frank pushed Irene down the streets of Bowmansville in a newly painted red wheelbarrow,surrounded by their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends and neighbors. It was the result of a pledge he had made to this wife on their 25th wedding anniversary.

The wheelbarrow carried a sign that read "Just Married 50 Years." More than 300 people lined Church and Main streets as the procession made its way from the Bowmansville Park pavilion to the Pine Grove Mennonite Church.

The event was termed "one of the most exciting things that had happened in Bowmansville since the carnival.

Born in Ephrata Township, Hersh was a son of the late Harrison and Hettie Ziemer Hersh and was a retired farmer and road construction worker. He had served Brecknock Township as a former township supervisor. assessor and Republican committeeman.

He was a member of the Bowmansville MennoniteChurch.

In addition to his wife,he is survived by five daughters and three sons: Arlene, wife of Clarence Loose, Honey Brook R3; Marian, wife of Paul Fox, New Holland R1; Laverne Kissinger, Reinholds RD; Marie Hersh, Reinholds R2; Teresa Amsbaugh, at home; Gerald G. Hersh, Denver R1; Frank V. Hersh, Terre Hill, and Richard L. Hersh, Mohnton R2.

Also surviving are 21 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; five sisters: Clara, wife of Russell Moll, Ephrata R2; Edith Hertzog
Ephrata; Margaret Hahn, Grants Pass,Oregon; Louella Withers, Akron; Florence Weber, Wilkes Barre; and one brother, Harvey
