Daniel William Saylak, 54, of Bryan, passed away Sunday evening at home after battling cancer for 7 years. A memorial service celebrating his life is set for Monday, June 18, 2012 at 2:00pm at Grace Bible Church, 700 Anderson Street, College Station.
Dan was born August 16, 1957, in Wilmington, Delaware, and spent several years in southern California before his family settled in Bryan, Texas. He graduated in 1975 from Bryan High School, married Amy in 1978, and a year later graduated from Texas A&M University. They moved to Fort Worth where Dan earned a medical degree from the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his internship. He began his family practice career in Bremond, and then moved to College Station to pursue emergency medicine and ultimately open Brazos Valley Urgent Care in 2005.
He was board certified in Family Practice and a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians. Dan's professional career was filled with years of leadership and service at national, state and local levels. He served as a committee chairman in the American Osteopathic Association, Medical Director of Texas-1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team, President of the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association and a board member of the Texas Medical Foundation. His passion for teaching resulted in years spent as a certified instructor for both Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support, as well as a volunteer instructor to his peers in electronic health records.
Dan was a proud Eagle Scout and a talented musician, playing several brass instruments and the bass guitar. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and coin collector. He enjoyed working on computers and watching television while eating jellybeans and black licorice. His very favorite times were spent with family and friends in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Dan was preceded in death by his mother, Genevieve Saylak and mother-in-law Martha Rahman. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Amy Saylak of Bryan, his daughters, Diana Saylak of Spring and Suzy Saylak and fiancé Jason Williams of Bryan; his father and step-mother Don and Nancy Saylak of College Station; his brother and sister-in-law Tom and Laurie Saylak and niece Jenny Saylak of Scarsdale, New York; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Ralph and Esta Record of Bryan; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Larry and Melanie Estes, and Mark and Alison Record, all of Bryan, and niece Emily Record of Sherman, and numerous other family and friends.
As per Dan's wishes, his ashes will be scattered in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
