Gene Adams

Graveside services for former Elk City resident, Gene Adams, will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 10, 2007, at Fairlawn Cemetery with Rev. Danny River officiating. Martin Funeral Home of Elk City is in charge of arrangements.

Gene was born on October 1, 1940, to Chester and Martha (Boulware) Adams in Oklahoma City, OK, and died Friday, May 4, 2007 at the age of 66, at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia, CA.

During his high school years, Gene worked for the Elk City Daily News, Hewlett Grocery, and Puckett's Grocery. While living in Elk City, he attended the First Baptist Church. Gene graduated from Elk city High School in 1958, then received his Bachelors Degree from the University of Central Oklahoma, in Edmond, OK, and did post graduate work at the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma City University in the field of Law.

After completing his college education, Gene worked in Washington, D. C. with the FBI and became a Special Agent under the direction of J. Edgar Hoover. He was a special Agent for the FBI for approximately 20 years, In 1984, he had an opportunity very few people are given, He was chosen be the Director of Security for the 1984 Olympics held in Los Angeles, CA. Following the Olympics he was named Director of Security for American Gold Corporation, where he has been employed for the past 23 years until the time of his death.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jerry Adams.

Gene is survived by one son, Mickey Adams, of Payson, AZ, one daughter, Kim Smith and husband, Jim, of Goldthwaite, TX, five grandchildren: Kayla, Tanner, and Cindy Riewe of Goldthwaite, TX, Mickey Adams of Abilene, TX, and Gene Adams of Weatherford, TX. He is also survived by one sister, Sherry Nutley and husband Derrel, of Elk City, OK, two aunts, Belva Bailey, of Rye, CO, and Jolene Jantzen, of Lubbock, TX, and other relatives.

Gene will be especially missed by his close friends and golfing buddies, who were known as, "The Adams Family." For many years this group of men has enjoyed playing golf courses weekly in California and at many special gold courses across the Nation. The highlight of their golf games together was an annual trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina. These special friends are: Chuck, Dennis, Steve, Randy S., Dan, Mae, Ken, Bill, Randy N., J.T., Jack, Swit, Bobby, Jim W., Keith, Tom C., Gator, Lynn, Sam, Sal, M.D., and Jay.
