"GAUNT - On the 26th inst., Mary E., wife of Richard Gaunt.
The relatives and friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend the funeral, on Tuesday,, 29th inst., at 3 o'clock, from her late residence, 563 Ferry avenue, Camden, N. J. To proceed to Evergreen Cemetery."

Mary was born to Martin Erskine and Mary Alexander. She was the oldest of the six children in the family.

She married Jonathan Cox in 1845. Jonathan was a carpenter, as were many others in his family. They lived in Philadelphia and then later outside of Camden. They had four children; Emma, William, Sarah Ann and Jonathan.

After her husband's death in 1862, Mary was remarried to Richard Gaunt on Apr. 13, 1868. Mary and Richard did not have any children together known to me. Richard was born in England in 1840, twenty years younger than Mary. He was also a house carpenter in the Camden area.

An interesting note, Mary's sister, Emma Louisa Erskine was the first wife of Frederick Gutekunst, the famous Civil War photographer. Emma was a blind woman who was one of the founders of a school and home for blind women. After her death in 1880, Frederick Gutekunst married Mary's daughter Sarah Ann in 1884.
