One of 8 Philadelphia firefighters who died while fighting the monstrous 11-alarm fire at the Gulf Oil Refinery on Penrose Avenue in South Philadelphia. He and Hugh McIntyre (who also perished in the blaze) joined the Fire Department on the same day - March 28, 1955.
