Pioneer Dies at daughter’s home in city
Michael Riemer, 83, Formerly of Town of Rockland, To Be Buried Saturday
Michael Riemer, 83, died Tuesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Arthur Schroeder, 817 South 23rd Street, after a seven week illness.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 from the Schroeder home and at 2:45 from the First German Evangelical Lutheran church with the Rev. L. H. Koeninger officiating. The remains will be taken to the Lutheran cemetery at Reedsville for interment.
Mr. Riemer was born on Oct. 23, 1851, in Germany. At the age of three, his parents brought the family to this country and settled in the town of Rockland. He married Roselina Lau on Dec. 15, 1877. Mr. Riemer was a farmer in Rockland until 1914 when he sold his farm to a son. In 1919 he bought a farm near Hilbert and in 1923 he moved to Collins. When his wife died in 1933, he came to this city to live with his daughter, Mrs. Arthur Schroeder.
Survivors are six daughters, Mrs. Gustave Wordell, Reedsville, Mrs. Edwin Behnke, Almond, Wis., Mrs. Arthur Schroeder, city, Mrs. Edward Kieper, Brillion, Mrs. Louis Brandes, town of Rockland, William, town of Rantoul, Walter, Chilton; four brothers, August, Kaukauna, Louis, Polar, Wis., Gottfried, ( a twin brother), Reedsville; two sister, Mrs. Bernhard Stege, Mrs. Louis Beyer, Antigo; 44 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. One son, Rudolph, was killed in France during the World war.
The body will be removed to the Schroeder home from the Wattawa, Urbanek and Schlei funeral home late Thursday.
