CRISFIELD - Merrill O. Byrd, 72, of Crisfield, a retired vice president of the Bank of Crisfield, died Sunday in Peninsula General Hospital in Salisbury after a long illness.

At the time of his retirement, three years ago, he had been associated with the bank for 51 years. Mr. Byrd was a past master of Crisfield's Chesapeake Masonic Lodge No. 147 and a member here of Immanuel United Methodist Church.

Born in Crisield, he was a son of the late John H. and Julia Dize Byrd.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Frances McNamara Byrd; two sons, John C. and M. O. Byrd Jr. Crisfield; and one granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Immanuel Church with the Rev. Dallas W. Butler and the Rev. Charles Leatherman officiating. Interment will be in Sunny Ridge Memorial Park, where Masonic graveside rites will be conducted.

Friends may call here at the Bradshaw and Sons Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and at Immanuel Church from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday.
