He and his brothers ranched with their dad in the Badlands. In his early twenties, he, with a cousin hopped a freight train and when it reached Missoula, they hiked north to the Flathead Valley and found jobs. Harold worked on a ranch in Irvine Flats and felled trees for the Dupuis Brothers sawmill.
He married Twila Newgard in 1936 and had 71 years together until her passing on Oct. 1, 2007. They made their permanent home on a ranch in Lonepine, where they resided for 62 years.
His interests include music, nature study and hiking, sports (the Yankees, Joe Louis, Muhammad Ali), Hereford cattle, chickens, storytelling, history and Bible study. He held leadership positions in the Hot Springs Seventh-day Adventist Church for 60 years. He participated in Christian Gospel work and contributing regularly to charitable work. He loved his family and people.
Harold is survived by sons, Dale Adams of Lonepine and Larry Adams of Berrien Springs, Mich.; daughters, Dolores Lee of Polson and Lynn Seland of Eckville, Alberta, Canada; an immediate sister in Bremerton, Wash.; two younger brothers and three younger sisters in the Portland, Ore., surrounding area; 35 nieces and nephews; more than 90 cousins; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
