Lacey was born in Redfield, Jefferson, AR, daughter of Lewis Mathews and Hollie Brazil.
She married Wiley Martin Pope 1 Sep 1920, they had 2 daughters, Hazel Marie Pope (Etue) 1922-2008 and Evelyn Pope (Langston) 1928-2012.
Lacey is believed to have died from leukemia. When her daughter Hazel was young, she remembered having to eat yeast cakes as part of the treatment for her Mom. Don't know if they thought it was contagious or not. Hazel said they left Arkansas and traveled by wagon to Oklahoma to try Doctors near Waurika where they had relatives. That's why Hazel's sister Evelyn was born in Oklahoma. Lacey's Mom also died young, but from complications from delivering twins.
