Another combat aviator from the Greatest Generation flies west. On June 16, 2012, Elmer Morse, 92, went to see his wife, Marian Morse, who preceded him in death, and joined the United States Air Force Angel Flight.
Services were held at Wood Family Funeral Service Chapel. A committal and interment service was held at Bakersfield National Cemetery in Arvin.
Colonel Morse led a distinguished career in the Army Air Corps, Army Air Force, and the United States Air Force. Colonel Morse was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal for service in the China-Burma-India theater of World War II.
After 22 years of military service, he retired to California, where he began an engineering manufacturing career. Elmer started Henway Inc. to manufacture aerospace fasteners. He grew the company and turned it over to his daughter, Susan Baker, Scott Baker, David and Rick Benham.
Elmer was an avid golfer at Bear Valley Springs and enjoyed trading bets with his golf buddies.
Elmer was preceded in death by his son, Gary Morse; his daughter, Susan Baker; and his wife, Marian Morse. Elmer is survived by his son, Ray and Jude Morse; and son, Larry and Mary Wahl. Elmer had four grandchildren, Christopher Morse, Courtney Bischofberger, and David and Rick Benham. Elmer was fortunate to have six great-grandchildren, Jacob, Caleb, Ariana, Adam, Kristina, and Christian.
