Craven Andre Winfield was born on April 14, 1960 in Brooklyn, New York, to the proud parents, Mr. & Mrs. Craven & Roberta Winfield. He attended William Cullen Bryant High School and subsequently enlisted in the United States Army in 1977, where he achieved his High School diploma. Craven was a craftsman by trade, and worked in many capacities. While in the military he was honored for his proficient clerical abilities. Craven was medically and honorably discharged in 1983.

In June 1986, his devoted courtship with Judy Frazier culminated in their marriage and in this union he became proud father of Teaira, Andre & Lakeya. Craven's children affectionately gave him the name "G-dad", which is short for Great Dad. This name went on to be used by many of his family & friends. He always took pride in his appearance and in coordinating his attire. Very light hearted by nature he loved to cook and enjoyed soul music. Craven was a generous, loving, caring man with a great sense of humor. He was a kindhearted soul that was willing to help anyone in need.

On June 20, 2012, Craven was called home to the Lord. He is survived by his: grandmother Mary Spence, mother Roberta Winfield, wife Judy Winfield, sister Regina Davis, brothers Craig & Cameron Winfield, brother-in-law Burt, daughters Teaira & Lakeya, son Andre, sons in-law, Pedro & Ricardo, grandsons, Messiah & Jeramiah, granddaughter Madison, nephews Dwayne & Derrick, nieces Kateya, Niesha & Sabrina and great nieces Tamia, Tiana, Tyla, Isabella & Teyonna.
