Ella Larine Wait Biggs, of El Dorado, passed away on Monday, Sept. 5, 2011.

Ella Larine was approaching her 94th birthday. She was born on Dec. 7, 1917 in El Dorado, to parents, Henry Mariner Wait and Beryl Ella Hadley Wait. She happily married Gerald (Jerry) Biggs, the love of her life in 1942. He died in 1944 and she never remarried. In addition to her parents and her husband, she is predeceased by her brother, Hadley Adair Wait. Hadley passed away in December of 2009. She is also predeceased by her first cousins, Linton O. Seglem and C. E. (Ed) Seglem.

Ella Larine graduated from Kansas State University and Arizona State University earning respectively bachelor's and master's degrees in education. She taught and counseled at schools in Wichita throughout her career. Her students loved her and wrote letters of appreciation to show their respect for her kindness as a counselor and teacher. Education was of utmost importance and she continued to study and learn well into her retirement. She and her brother travelled the world going by plane, train and automobile to island nations, Europe, Mexico, Canada and the U.S.A. She was an avid photographer and took many beautiful photos of scenery throughout her travels, as well as candid family photos that captured "just the right moment." She was active in the Putnam Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, writing numerous articles for the chapter's newsletter. She will long be remembered her for her wit, her glamour and her love of learning.

Surviving family members include her dear first cousin, Margaret Wilson of Towanda. Additionally, she is survived by other loving cousins and family members: Mary Seglem Shields, Cathy Seglem Clark, Janice Seglem Kyser, Jerry Seglem, William (Bill) Seglem, Joni Seglem Dacus, Brenda Bolin Watts, Scott Biggs and Jane Biggs. Others close family members who predeceased her are Robert (Bob) Seglem, Gary Wilson and Cynthia Wilson Murphy.

Visitation for Mrs. Biggs will be at the Carlson Funeral Home on Friday beginning at 1 p.m., with services following at 2. Reverend Mike McGuire of First United Methodist will preside. Burial will be at Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, you may make a contribution to the DAR (National Society - Daughters of the American Revolution, 1776 D St. NW Washington, DC 20006) or the charity of your choice.
