"Aged Skidmore Woman Died Tuesday Evening
Sarah E. Pope Dies at Her Home in Skidmore Tuesday Evening, August 12, at 9:30
Sarah E. Pope died at her home in Skidmore, Tuesday, August 12, 1913, at 9:30 o'clock, after a long illness. For the past two or three years she has suffered more or less all the time and a part of the time was unable to leave her room. Her death was not unexpected and when the end came she was surrounded by her relatives and friends.

Sarah Elizabeth Pope was born September 11, 1850, in Nodaway county, where she was reared to womanhood and where she has spent the greater part of her life.

Her parents, James and Martha Smock, were among the pioneer settlers of this country, residing three and one-half miles north of Graham.

She was married to L. J. Pope November 6, 1870 at her home, then in Hold county. To this union seven children were born, six of whom survive her. The surviving children are Roselle Belle Teson, Skidmore, Jasper L., Meadow Grove, Nebraska; Harvey M., Skidmore; Bertha M. Osborn, Madison, Nebraska; Charlie E. and James R., Skidmore; and Martha A. Sewell, deceased.

She is survived by three brothers and two sisters, W. H. Smock, Maitland; Jasper Smock, Ray, Colorado; L. C. Smock, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Mary Dyson and Lydia C. Cottrill, Skidmore.

Her Husband, L. J. Pope, owned a large farm in Nodaway county, also 400 acres near Battle Creek, Nebraska, where he lived a number of years. He moved back to Missouri in 1900 and in 1905 moved to Skidmore, building a nice residence, where he lived until his death in 1908.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Pope were members of the Baptist church. Mrs. Pope having united with that church about forty years ago.

The funeral services were held in the Baptist church three miles north of Graham, Thursday, August 14, at 2 p.m. by Rev. R. C. Miller, pastor of the Baptist church at Moberly.

She was laid to rest by the side of her husband in the Groves cemetery, near Graham."
