Mattie Lee Wayne, 95, of Davis Street in Campbellsville died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, after an illness. Daughter of the late James Henry Paxton and Elizabeth Louellen Paxton of Green County, she was a member of South Campbellsville Baptist Church. Wayne was a retired employee of the Dollar General Store in Campbellsville. She was married to Johnnie Walker, who preceded her in death in 1935. She was later married to Fred Wayne, who preceded her in death in 1952. Survivors include two sons, three daughters and two sons-in-law, one step-son and one step-daughter, Buford Walker, Vetrie Milby, Dean Carter, Clifton Carter and Allen Taylor Wayne, all of Campbellsville, Wayne Walker of Louisville, Laurine and the Rev. Odell Beauchamp of Owensboro and Frances Luckett of Lebanon; 26 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Frances Helm of Campbellsville. She was also preceded in death by three sons and one daughter, James Walker, Clifford Walker, Gary Wayne and Louise Dickerson. Funeral was at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 29 at Lyon-DeWitt Funeral Home in Campbellsville with burial in Brookside Cemetery. The Rev. Odell Beauchamp officiated. Pallbearers were Clifton Carter, Michael Walker, Ernie Walker, Maurice Walker, Jessie Carter and Larry Milby.
