On Tuesday, July 20th, Rev. S. E. Bassett died at his home in Fort Valley. He had been ill a very short while, and to most of his friends his death was altogether unexpected. Mr. Bassett was about 65 years old, a minister of the Congregational church, and for several years state superintendent of the American Home Missionary Society for Alabama. He was most highly esteemed as a most excellent citizen and an earnest and upright Christian gentleman. He leaves a wife, four sons and a daughter, and with these in their sore bereavement their many friends sincerely sympathize.
