CASTLEWOOD, Va. - The Rev. Grant William Layman, 73, formerly of Casa Grande, died Nov. 24, 2004 at home after a lengthy illness.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Castlewood Funeral Home. Masonic memorial services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. The funeral there will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Mike Moore, the Rev. Harry Layell and Gracie Statzer officiating. Burial will be in Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood.

The Rev. Layman was born in Hillsboro, Ohio, to Oren H. and Mary Roberts Layman. He received a bachelor's degree in ministry from Milligan College in 1954 and was a minister at Christian churches in Tennessee, Ohio and Arizona, including Casa Grande, through 1989. He led several revivals and sang for many special events. He loved to sing. He was a member of Lancaster (Ohio) Masonic Lodge 57 and assisted with DeMolay.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Eva Lou (Litton); a daughter, Mary Lou Turner of Lancaster; a son, Timothy Grant Layman of Chandler; his stepmother, Virginia Layman of Florida; a half-sister, Cathy Harper of Florida; and six grandchildren.
