Herbert Sheehan -

The entire community was shocked last Friday when the news went around that "Herb" Sheehan, as he was familiarly called, had passed away that day at the St. Francis hospital at Grand Island. Mr. Sheehan was one of the very best citizens of this community, universally liked and held in high esteem by all who knew him. His obituary follows:

Herbert Leslie Sheehan was born at Stanton, Nebraska, November 20, 1899. At the age of 6 years he moved with his parents to Sherman county, the family locating on the present home farm 5 miles east of Litchfield, where they have since resided.

On June 2, 1924 he was united in marriage to Miss Eva Mae Sperling of Ashton, Nebr. Herbert Sheehan was a man of kindly disposition, radiating good cheer whereever he went, a loyal friend, good neighbor and an exemplary husband. In his daily life on the farm, he was always kind and considerate of his stock and also of those with whom he worked and came in contact.

For several months he has been suffering with an affliction in one of his limbs, two operations being resorted to in order that he might obtain relief. However his condition was not considered of a serious nature until Tuesday evening, March 26 when it was considered advisable to take him to Grand Island for treatment. He was taken to St. Francis hospital where he was given every care and attention possible to medical skill but it was of no avail.

He passed away on March 29, 1935, at the age of 35 years, 4 months and 9 days, after an illness of only three days, pneumonia being pronounced the cause of his demise.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, his father, John Sheehan, (his mother having preceded him in death some 15 years ago), one sister, Mrs. Katherine Bichel, four brothers, John, Troy and Fred, all of Litchfield, Nebr. and Frank of Omaha, Nebr.

His untimely death is a source of grief to one and all in his large circle of friends and acquaintances.

Funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church on Sunday afternoon.....Interment was made in the Litchfield cemetery.

We join with the many friends in extending sympathy to the family in their bereavement.
