He was born in the Town of Thorp, Clark County, Nov. 30, 1907, the son of William and Mary Smith. He grew up in the Stanley area.
He married Maxine Carmien on September 6, 1928, in St. Mary’s rectory, Stanley. They lived and farmed in the Stanley area, retiring in 1971, then moving to Stanley.
He was a foster grandparent at the Northern Wisconsin Center for the Developmentally Disabled for eight years.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Jack, Chippewa Falls, Richard, James and Scott, all of Stanley; two daughters, June (Mrs. Teddy) Shilts, Mary Lee (Mrs. Donald) Schmitz, both of Stanley; a brother, William, Oak Creek; 35 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, a sister and nine brothers.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Stanley Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Walter Miller officiating. Interment will be in the Edson Union Cemetery.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. Saturday and until noon Sunday at Plombon Funeral Home, Stanley, and at the church until services.
