Born in Virginia. Patriarch of the Baker clan in southern Montgomery and northwestern Harris Counties. Basil Baker Sr was married three times and fathered 14 children over a 36 year period from 1834 to 1870. One son, Benjamin Franklin Baker, served in Company C of Terry's Texas Rangers during the Civil War. Another son, Erasmus McGruder Baker, was a Houston Police Officer. Erasmus is also buried in Baker Cemetery in an unmarked grave.
