Edith Naomi Willis, 87, of Ironton, passed away Monday, June 25, 2012, at King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky. The Forestdale, Ohio native was born December 19, 1924, the daughter of the late John A. and Angie Losey Mayfield. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Glenn E. Willis, who passed away November 11, 1992.

Mrs. Willis was a graduate of Dawson Bryant High School and Marshall University with a bachelors degree in education. She was a former employee for the Clayton and Lambert Manufacturing during WWII, a company that made steel cartridges for the Navy Bureau of Ordinance and was located in Ashland, Kentucky. She was also a former school teacher for the Dawson Bryant School District for 41 years, retiring in 1988. She was a member of the National Education Association and Dawson Bryant Education Association. She was a member of the Ice Creek Missionary Baptist Church of Deering and also active in Zoar Baptist Church of Coal Grove. She was active in church work at Ice Creek and Zoar Baptist Church. She was an accomplished pianist and served as pianist for many churches where her father was pastor and enjoyed planning and organizing social functions and events.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by:
2 sisters: Evelyn Mayfield and Ruth Mayfield
brother and sister (twins), that died in infancy

She is survived by:
son and daughter-in-law: Stephen and Scherry Willis of Newton, IL
son and daughter-in-law: Dr. Kevin and Joni Willis of Ironton
son and daughter-in-law: Philip and Cheryl Willis of Ironton
sister: Freda Stafford of Coal Grove, OH
brother and sister-in-law: John W. and Lynn Mayfield of Huntington, WV
grandchildren: Stephanie and Jimmy Bailey of Wheelersburg, OH, Megan Willis of Macomb, IL, Hannah and Andrew Knipp of Ironton, John Kevin Willis of Ironton, and L.Cpl. Jamie Willis of Quantico, VA

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, June 30, 2012, at the Zoar Baptist Church in Coal Grove, Ohio with Rev. Jim Beals officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6-9 PM at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, 518 South Sixth Street, Ironton, Ohio and the body will lie in state one hour prior to the services at the church. Pallbearers will be John Smith, Jamie Lafon, Paul Dennin, Chris Lafon, Andrew Hicks and Brandon Lafon. Donations may be made to the New Life Children's Home in Lima, Peru, c/o Central Missionary Clearing House, P.O. Box 219228, Houston, TX 77218.
