George Washington Arnder, 100, retired farmer of Mount Airy, route 1, died at 1:30pm Friday at the Maple Grove Rest Home at Winston-Salem.

He was born September 4, 1857 in Patrick County, Virginia.

He was a charter member of Bannertown Baptist Church.

He was first married to Miss Addie Barker who died in 1910. His second wife, the former Miss Ellen Gates, survives.

Also surviving are two sons, George and Robert Arnder of Mount Airy, route 1; six daughters, Mrs. Mark Gates, Mrs. Floyd Harris and Mrs. Jettie Chappell of Mount Airy, route 1; Mrs. William Willard of Mount Airy, route 2, Mrs. Ida Bowman of Lowgap and Mrs. Tommie Goard of Patrick Springs, VA. 31 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; and a sister Mrs. Mattie Goard of Patrick Springs Va.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 pm Sunday at Bannertown Baptist Church a mile south of Mount Airy, by the Rev. J.A. Crews.
