Charles Willard Minch, 69, of Spartanburg, SC, died Saturday, June 23, 2012.

Born September 21, 1942, in Hamilton, Bermuda, he was the son of the late Charles Frederick and Jenifer (Crump) Minch.

Charles retired from Greenville Technical College as an instructor. He was formerly employed as an engineering project manager with The Piedmont Group in Greenville and Lockwood Greene in Spartanburg. A member of The Episcopal Church of the Advent, he served on the vestry twice. He was also a Lay Eucharistic Visitor, Lector, and Chalice Bearer. He was a member and past president of the Executive Sertoma Club, and a former Camp Sertoma Trustee. He was serving his third term as a Little Theater Board member, and was an Arts Partnership volunteer. Charles was also a Lieutenant Colonel in the 2nd Brigade SC State Guard where he served as staff engineer. Previously he had been on the Spartanburg High School PTA Board and was president of the Republican precinct. He was a member and former State president of the SC Society of Professional Engineers, Spartanburg Chapter SC SPE president and Engineer of the Year.

Charles received his BA Degree from Sewanee, The University of the South, and received a BME and Master of Mechanical Engineering from The Georgia Institute of Technology.

Surviving are his beloved wife Cathleen McKeen Minch; daughters, Susan Minch Starnes and her husband Rusty of Cornelius, NC, and Margaret Minch Spain and her husband David of Charleston, SC; grandchildren, Anna Cathleen Starnes and Connor William Spain; sister, Jeni Smith and her husband Dan of Dadeville, AL; brother-in-law, Mike McKeen and his wife Janet of Montgomery, AL; nieces, Amy Carnes of Mobile, AL, Christina Smith of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Jeni Lee Smith of Daphney, AL, and Kristin Daniel of Gainesville, GA; nephew, Kirk McKeen of Montgomery, AL, and Scott McKeen of Birmingham, AL; and five great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was conducted at 4:00 PM Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at The Episcopal Church of the Advent, by the Rev. J. Edward Morris.

Visitation followed in the Parish and Community Life Center at the church. Inurnment will be private in the Cloister Columbarium.

The family requested no flowers, but memorials could be made to The Advent Foundation of The Episcopal Church of the Advent, 141 Advent Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302; or Sewanee, The University of the South, Attn: Office of Gift Records, 735 University Avenue, Sewanee, TN 37383.
