William Allendorph, one of Troy's oldest merchants, died at 10 o'clock this morning at his residence on Seventh street. For more than a year Mr. Allendorph had suffered from liver and kidney complaints, and the last four weeks he had been confined to his house, … The deceased was born in Moreau, Saratoga county, sixty-four years ago. In 1836 he came to Troy and ten years later he entered upon his long and prosperous business career as a partner of his brother, H. E. Allendorph, who until that time had been a member of the firm of Priest & Allendorph, L. W. Priest then retiring. In the forty years' copartnership of H. E & W Allendorph their place of business had always been at No. 318 River street. In connection with their local trade the had also conducted branch stores at Albany and Ogdensburgh. December 4, 1848, William Allendorph married Mary E. Simmons, sister of ex-Fire Commissioner W. A. Simmons of this city. Mrs. Allendorph, a son, William P. Allendorph, a daughter, Grace Allendorph, survive, as do Henry E. Allendorph and Hiram Allendorph, brothers of the deceased. Mr. Allendorph was a valued member of the Second (Fifth street) Presbyterian church, of which he had served nine years as a trustee and six years as treasurer. In business as in other affairs he was straight-forward and energetic, and many friends will deeply regret his death.
