Beatrice J. Stauffer, 91, lifelong Adamstown resident, died June 26, 2012, in Kindred Hospital, Havertown, following a courageous battle with illness.
Born in Adamstown, a daughter of the late Samuel V. and Mazie L. (Youndt) Horst, her husband, Harold W. Stauffer, died in 1972. "Beattie" attended E. Cocalico Vocational School, Reamstown, leaving early to help support her parents; she earned her GED while working at RCA, Lancaster, retiring in 1981. Her lunchtime 'going away' party was the largest ever held for a retiree.
She played clarinet in the Adamstown Band, and was a charter member of the Adamstown VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Following retirement, she served on borough council 1982-89. A happy person who made friends easily, Beattie loved beautiful things: animals (especially cats), flowers, holiday decorations and ornamental china.
Her love of family was almost matched by her love for traveling. Visiting various states including, Alaska and
Hawaii, she traveled to Canada, Bermuda and cities in Europe.
The talent shows on cruises would bring out her love of music, performing a favorite song, "Sweet Gypsy Rose." A sentimental lady who grew up during the Great Depression and endured the uncertainties of WWII, she was sustained by her courage and faith in God. Beattie was a member of Peace UCC and is survived by her two sons, and her cat,"Rosie." Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Adamstown.
