Donald Luverne Kohnert, age 78 of Waseca, died at his home on Thursday, June 28, 2012.

Born in Waldorf on October 28, 1933, Donald was the son of Rudy and Ada (Schnoor) Kohnert. He attended school in Waldorf before serving in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955.

On February 1, 1956 he married Bernita Proehl in Waseca. Following his honorable discharge from service, Donald lived in Waseca and worked for the Minnesota State Highway Department for three years, where he participated in the construction of the first section of Interstate 35 in the state. He then began farming full time near Waldorf. In 1967, he moved to West Concord and ran a dairy farm until 1981, at which time he returned to Waseca. Donald enjoyed nature, walking, farming, and following high school athletics.

Donald is survived by his wife Bernita of Waseca; three children, Donalee Butler of Randall, Brian (Penny) Kohnert of Waseca, and Debra Kohnert of Waseca; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lowell (Ardith) Kohnert of Waseca and Stan (Faye) Kohnert of LeCenter; and one sister, Mary Jane (Andrew) Kajewski of Waseca; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Kinder-Dennis Home for Funerals in Waseca, with Rev. Jon Schultz officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:00PM until the time of the service. Interment will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
