The January 14, 1927 edition of the Cherokee Advance carried the following obituary:
Mr. William T. McCollum, for years a prominent citizen of Canton, died at the home of his son, Mr. Worth McCollum in Smyrna Monday morning. At the time of his death he was 91 years of age, a large portion of this time he spent in Canton. He was a Confederate veteran and a life-long member of the Baptist church. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Charles Barker, two sons, Mr. McCollum of Ballground; Mr. Worth McCollum of Smyrna and two sisters. His remains were brought to Holly Springs on Tuesday and interred in the presence of a large gathering. W. T. McCollum was the son of Jesse Miller McCollum; his brother was Benjamin Franklin McCollum. Jesse was the son of William W. and Esther Edwards McCollum.
