In the first few years of the 20th Century her family and many other families from the Tallapoosa County Area in Alabama migrated their way to Texas. This was due (in part) to the beginning of hydroelectric dams being installed along the Tallapoosa River. These dams would lead to what is Lake Martin in Alabama.
While in DeLeon, Comanche County, Texas she would marry fellow Alabaman, Ellie Jessie Velpo Whatley (Jerry or E.J.). Her sister Irene married Jerry's brother, William Woodward Whatley (Tobe). Jerry and Sue were married 59 years before in death his 1966.
After they married, they would only stay in Texas a few years. Their oldest daughter Lois was born there but by 1914 when their second daughter was born, Sue and her family had moved to Bryan County, Oklahoma where they would live until her death. There they would welcome 4 more children to the family. Sadly, a set of twins would die because of prematurity in 1918. But their 4 other children grew to maturity and blessed them with 10 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
She died on December 22, 1979, in Durant, Oklahoma, at the age of 87, and was buried in Bokchito Cemetery.
