Colfax, Nov 4, __ Mrs. Sophrona Dodge passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. P. Madison, Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 11:45 p.m. from heart failure. The deceased, whose maiden name was Sophrona Knapp, was born at Little Britian, Orange county, N. Y., Sept. 3, 1841. She came to Wisconsin when about 18 years of age and was married to Thomas Dodge at the Roxbury church in Dane county, Wisc., in 1859. In 1861, they moved to Poplar Creek in Dunn county, where resided on their homestead until 1899, when they sold the farm and moved to the village of Colfax. There they lived eight years when they sold their home here and moved to Albertville, where they lived one year, returning here. Mr. Dodge died Sept. 6, 1908.
To Mr. and Mrs. Dodge were born five children, three of whom survive, as follows: Mrs. Nellie Doolittle of Canada, Harvey Dodge of Canada, and Mrs. Rhoda Madison of Colfax. She is survived by one brother, Harvey B. Knapp of Baraboo, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Woodburn of Minneapolis, besides eleven grandchildren and four great-grand-children.
Mrs. Dodge was a life-long Christian, and has left an example worthy of imitation. The funeral was held Monday at the Madison home in the village at 11 a.m., then an open-air service at the Poplar Creek cemetery, were interment was made by the side of the remains of her life partner. Rev. E. J. Sochtjen of M. E. church, preached the sermon.
