Mrs. Clarissa Watkins Tripp was born in Wendell, MA in June 1819, bring the youngest daughter in a family of 17 children. Her father was Stephen Watkins, who was a pensioner of the War of the Revolution, a fact of which she was always proud. The family moved to Kirby, but several of the young women married, lived and died in this immediate vicinity. Mrs. Tripp herself, as the wife of Joshua Tripp, came to this place in 1861, so in this community she lived 42 years. Mr. Tripp was a well known stage driver, hotel keeper and successful business man and died at this place in March 1899. Mrs. Tripp was a woman of strong character.

The funeral was held at her late residence at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon; Rev. Mr. Roberts officiating.

Two children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Tripp; Mary and Adele. Mary only lived to grow to womanhood, and as the wife of A.N. Putnam, was well known here, who died several years ago, leaving 2 daughters, Mrs. F.S. Lockwood and Miss Clara Putnam. Miss Clara has lived in the home since her father's and her mother's death, and tenderly cared for her grandmother, assisted by her sister Annie.

Those from out of town present at the funeral were Horace Woodruff and mother of St. Johnsbury, Mr. and Mrs. H.P. Armington of Nashua, NH; Mr. and Mrs. G.L. Armington and daughter of Ludlow; Mr. and Mrs. Bingham of Rutland; Mr. and Mrs. Otis Baldwin of Felchville.
