Walter J. Ackerman, 79, of 33133 Skin Creek Road, Lewisville, Ohio, died November 5, 1999, at his home. He was born near Lewisville, Malaga Township, on February 6, 1920, (parents: Benjamin P. Ackerman and Elsie Louise Hines). He was a very active dairy farmer for many years and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Miltonsburg, Ohio, where he had served on the Parish council for many years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Holy Name Society and a 35 year member of the A. S. C. S. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Alberta Mae Stephen Ackerman, whom he married November 9, 1946; three brothers, George B. Ackerman, of Parkersburg, West Virginia, Edward H. Ackerman, of Lewisville, Lester C. Ackerman, of Woodsfield; a sister, Leota Christman Buss, of Apple Creek; several nieces and nephews.
Friends were received at Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield, November 8. Funeral liturgy with Mass was celebrated November 9 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Miltonsburg, with Monsignor Thomas C. Petronek as celebrant.
Burial followed in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Miltonsburg. Vigil services were held November 8 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 35560 Miltonsburg-Calais Road, Woodsfield, Ohio 43793.
