SAREPTA, LA—Funeral services for Mr. Carroll G. "Buck" Alford, age 92, will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at the New Sarepta Baptist Church, where he was an active and faithful member.... Burial will be in the Springhill Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Mortuary, Springhill, LA.

Mr. Alford, a long time resident of this area, died Saturday, October 20, 2007 at his home in Sarepta. He was a 1934 graduate of the Sarepta High School and enlisted in the US Army in 1943 where he served in E.T.O for 20 months as a machinist with the 129 Ordnance Company. He was discharged in 1945. He was an ordained deacon of the New Sarepta Baptist Church in 1947 and had served as church treasurer until declining health prevented it. He worked for International Paper Company for 34 years, retiring in 1977. On October 15, 2005, he was honored as the longest living citizen of Sarepta.

Mr. Alford is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, "Jabo" and Glenda Alford of Sarepta, LA; daughter and son-in-law, Nelda and Stan Loyd of Nashville, TN; four grandchildren, John Alford and wife, Karen, of Haughton; Dana Hughes and husband, Devin, of Sarepta; Becky Loyd of Nashville, TN and Susan Loyd of New York, NY; and one great-grandson, Jamey Garner, of Sarepta, LA.

He is preceded in death by his wife, of 53 years, Faye Patrick Alford, in 1994; his parents, Glover and Gracie Alford; brothers, Norris, Regie and John Hulen Alford; sisters, Elaine Chambers and Mable Rucker.

Serving as pallbearers will be Dale Matthews, Billy St. Claire, Stanley Newsom. Gary Leonard, Roland Colvin and Mike Corley....
