He was a member of Brown Springs Baptist Church.
Mr. Wells served in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army for 18 years.
He worked in Greene County Law Enforcement for 16 years.
After 30 years, Mr. Wells retired from Magnavox following a vehicle accident in 1981, which left him a paraplegic.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years: Betty Myers Wells; two daughters and a son-in-law: Cheryl and Danny Bowman of Mosheim and Shelia Grindstaff of Limestone; four grandchildren: Brittany Bowman of Mosheim, Becky Lee of Kingsport, and Amanda Trent and Jimmy Conder, both of Kentucky; three great-grandchildren of Kentucky; a brother and sister-in-law: Fain and Betty Wells of Bulls Gap; a sister: Mahala Carter of Greeneville; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Billy and Ruth Myers and Johnny and Beverly Myers, all of Mosheim; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: David Houston and Grace Wells; and two brothers: J.B. Wells and John Henry Wells.
