JOHN C. PAYNE

John C. Payne, 80, of 2220 Charles St., died of complications at 10:58 p.m. Saturday in Portsmouth General Hospital, where he was admitted last Wednesday.

Mr. Payne retired in 1950 as a custodian for William Mfg. Co.

He was born Aug. 26, 1876, in Lewis County, Ky.

Mr. Payne was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary, in March 1951 and by his parents and a brother.

Surviving is his second wife, Carrie Hoffman Thompson Payne, whom he married Nov. 13, 1951.

He is also survived by two sisters,m Mrs. Maggie Warren, of Maysville, Ky., and Mrs. Ethel Mayers, of Glenn Springs, Ky.; four stepsons, five stepdaughters and eight step-grandchildren.

Mr. Payne was of the Baptist faith.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Emrick Funeral Home. Rev. Arthur Caudill will officiate. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.
