Celeste Lorraine Brugh Arritt of Meadow Bridge died July 10, 2006, at her home in Meadow Bridge following a short illness.

Born in Lansing, WV, she was the daughter of the late William Henry Brugh and Mona Bobbitt Brugh Jones. In She also was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Leslie Arritt, in 1957; a son, Ronald Franklin Arritt, in 1956; and a brother, Ronald Claude Brugh, in 1989.

Mrs. Arritt was a member of the Meadow Bridge United Methodist Church where she served as treasurer from 1959 until her death. She was a retired teacher of 43 1/2 years from Meadow Bridge High School, where she taught Social Studies, Science, Math, Latin and Journalism. She served as sponsor of the Monte Meade yearbook and the Montrado school newspaper for many years.

She was a member of the Kappa Delta Pi National Honorary Educational Society; Omega Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an honorary women educators' organization; American Association of University Women, Hinton branch; National Retired Teachers Association; National Association of Retired Persons; National Education and West Virginia Education Association; Fayette County Retired Persons; Marshall University Alumni Association; a member of the Meadow Bridge Continuing Education Outreach Service; and Fayette County Historical Society.

Mrs. Arritt served as Meadow Bridge town treasurer, recorder and council member. She served as Fayette County Democratic Committeewoman and a member of the State Human Rights Commission. She was a history instructor for West Virginia University for four years and a history instructor for West Virginia Institute of Technology for one year. She was head of the Social Studies Department for the Federal Upward Bound Program for four years and was in the follow-up program for 10 years.

Surviving: her son and daughter-in-law, Jon Michael and Rita Gail Arritt of Huntington; her daughter, Carolyn Celeste Arritt of Meadow Bridge; her brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Nancy Jones of Portage, Mich.; her sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Don Holko of Leesburg, Fla.; her granddaughter and husband, Teresa and Craig Chafin of Suwanee, Ga.; her granddaughter and husband, Donna and Thomas Toler of Wayne; her grandson and wife, Jon Michael Arritt II and Leisa of Port Charlotte, Fla.; her granddaughter, Mona Elizabeth Arritt of Lexington, Ky.; her great-grandchildren, Brooke and Tyler Chafin, Brittany, Sarah, and Tommy Toler, and John Michael Arritt III, Trevor and Gabriel Arritt; her nephew and wife, Doug and Helene Jones of Christiansburg, Va.; her nephew and wife, Michael and Tammy Jones of Cary, N.C.; her niece and husband, Rebecca and Dale Fonner of Kalamazoo, Mich.; her niece and husband, Jody and Rick Ouding of Plainwell, Mich.; her nephew and wife, Fletcher and Betty Jean Arritt of Fork Union, Va.; her nephew and wife, David and Maria Arritt of Fayetteville, and her nephew and wife, John and Cathy Arritt of Fayetteville.

Services were July 14 at the Meadow Bridge United Methodist Church with the Rev. Roger Booth, the Rev. Melissa Shortridge, the Rev. Bil Lepp, and the Rev. Billy Cornell officiating. Burial followed in the Huse Memorial Park Cemetery, Fayetteville. The service concluded with the release of the White Flights.
