Robert Floyd Abbott aka "Poppa Bob" November 23, 1926 - June 22, 2012 Robert "Bob" Floyd Abbott age 85 passed away peacefully on June 22, 2012. Bob was born to Dale and Irma Abbott November 23, 1926 in Bakersfield, California. He graduated from East Bakersfield High School in 1944. During his senior year Bob met his wife, Dorothy Mae Presley Abbott. Bob and Dorothy were married for 63 years before Dorothy's passing in June of 2007. After serving in the Army during World War II, Bob began his career as a Fine Men's Clothier. He first started at Harry Coffee's, then Seiler's Men's Store and Casper's Men's Store. In 1980 Bob and dear friend, Herb Walker, founded Walker Abbott's Clothiers to Men. Being a Men's Store business owner was Bob's lifelong dream. During their life together, Bob, Dorothy and their family enjoyed many summer vacations at June Lake, California. Bob taught his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren the art and joy of fishing. June Lake and the friendly residents there became a 2nd home to the Abbott family. However, Dorothy's favorite was their small coastal vacation home in Pismo Beach, California. Bob stayed active with his East Bakersfield High School Class of 44! He was the chairman of their 30th year Class Reunion. Bob was past President and Deputy Governor of the East Bakersfield 20/30 Club, past President of East Bakersfield Exchange Club, past Head Trader of the of Bakersfield Trade Club and a member of Footprinters International. Most of all, Bob was known as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great, great grandfather and was also loved by so many others, who's lives he has touched. Bob is survived by sister, Joyce Bone, Brother and Sister in-law Bill and Jennifer Presley, son Randy Abbott, daughters, Patti Wilson (husband Donald), Cathi Worrell (husband Donnie), Janice Witcher (husband Pat), Bobbie Rigdon (husband Donnie) 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren, dear close family friends, Barbara Weatherholt and Roger Hay. Bob will be laid to rest at the new Bakersfield National Cemetery. The family will celebrate his life at the Pyrenees Cafe on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at 5:30 pm. The family invites all of those who knew and loved Bob to please join them at the Pyrenees Cafe. Contact: Patti Wilson (979-7184). The family would like to thank Optimal Hospice, the owners of Welcome Home, their loving caretakers and his resident friends for being such a blessing in Bob's life since he became a resident in November 2011!
