Mrs. Ellen Burton, 105 State, a Gold Star mother and the only colored member of the American Legion Auxiliary, will entertain her 95 year old sister, Mrs. Carrie Stepter, of Pacific Grove, Calif., and her two brothers, Joseph O'Dair and Harry O'Dair on New Year's day at their first reunion in more than 20 years. The four are the only living members of a family of 11 children who were among early day Emporians. Joseph O'Dair, who is 90 years old, lives with Mrs. Burton. He was employed by the Santa Fe as a cook for many years and in the 80's and 90's, he managed a colored orchestra. Harry O'Dair lives in Parsons and is 65 years old. Mrs. Stepter, the oldest of the family, made the trip to Emporia by herself. Mrs. Burton, who is 83 years old, lost two sons in wars. One was killed in the World war and another died in the Spanish American war.

BURTON SERVICES THURSDAY
Funeral services for Mrs. Ellen Burton, who died in her home at 105 State, December 10, will be held in Mr. Olive A.M.E. church. Bishop I. Wilson, of Detroit, Mich., will conduct the service, assisted by the pastor, the Rev. C. L. Williams. Burial will be in Maplewood cemetery. The casket will be open at the Roberts-Blue funeral home until time for the services.
Mrs. Burton, the former Ellen O'Dair, was a daughter of the late Henry and Dicey O'Dair. She was born December 16, 1853, in Little Rock, Ark., and had lived in Emporia since 1863. She married Ben Burton June 23, 1880. Mr. Burton preceded her in death in 1932. She is survived by one son, Ulysses G. Burton, of St. John; one daughter, Mrs. Lettie Johnson, Warrenburg, Mo.; one granddaughter, Helen Burton, Cherstertown, Md.; three grandsons, Grant Burton, U.S. Army, Japan; David and Leibra Burton of the home, 105 State; one brother, Harry O'Dair, of Parsons. Seven great grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Burton was a member of the Church of God and Saints of Christ, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a Gold Star mother.

THE BURTON SERVICES
Funeral services for Mrs. Ellen Burton, who died December 10 at her home, 105 State, were held Thursday afternoon a 2 o'clock in Mt. Olive A.M.E. church. The pastor, the Rev. C. L. Williams, was in charge of the services and was assisted by Bishop Isaiah Wilson, of Detroit, Mich., who preached the sermon; Evangelist F. W. Daniels, Richmond, Ind.; the Rev. W. A. Chambers, of St. James Baptist church, the Rev. George C. Davis and Mrs. Mary Wilson, of Detroit, wife of Bishop Wilson. Also participating in the service at the church was the American Legion auxiliary, with Mrs. R. N. Hedges as president, and Mrs. Lena Day as chaplain. The church choir sang, accompanied by Mrs. Walter Smith. Members of the Legion Auxiliary and the Gold Star Mothers. Inc., attended in groups.
The pallbearers were A. C. Helm, J. A. Walls, Perle Carson, J. W. Smith, Ralph Armstead and Fred Ervin.
At the grave in Maplewood cemetery, the Gold Star Mothers, Inc., had charge of the services, with Mrs. Alva McCray as president, and Mrs. Sam Jacob as chaplain.
Out-of-town persons attending were Bishop and Mrs. Isaiah Wilson, Mrs. Elizabeth Taylor, Detroit, Mich.; Evangelist F. W. Burton, St. John.
