Sam Wilson McCracken, 72, of 111 Wood Dale, Hendersonville, N.C., died Wednesday, June 29, 1988 in a Hendersonville hospital.
A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Charles McCracken and Della Greene McCracken. He received a B.A. degree from Appalachian State Teachers College and a M.A. degree from University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He was an employee of the Buncombe County School System, having taught at Enka and Sandhill. He was president of Mills River Valley Senior Citizens and was past president of Mills River Lions Club. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was survived by his wife, Dorothy A. McCracken; a daughter, Barbara J. McCracken of Greenville, South Carolina.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 1988 in Mills River United Methodist Church, of which he was a member, chairman of the administrative board and financial secretary. The Rev. Robert Roach officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Thomas Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors
