Newlyn was born February 20, 1915 in Ashville, North Carolina, the second of five girls to Jay and Myrtle Fincher. The family moved to Woodinville, Washington when Newlyn was two years old, to Yakima, Washington when she was 12.
Newlyn married Lewis McDonald when she was 18. They had three children, Myrtle Marie, JoAnne, and Douglas Lewis.
She married Henry Bongiorni on August 6, 1955. Two more children were born, Thomas Joseph and Elizabeth Louise.
Newlyn graduated from Central Washington University in June of 1962 with a degree in Education and taught school in Othello, Washington until her retirement in 1980.
Newlyn was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; daughter, JoAnne; granddaughter, Autumn Bongiorni; great-grandson, Alfred Gordon Guild.
She is survivied by her children, Myrtle (Dick) Guild, of Lynnwood, WA, Douglas (Mary) McDonald, of Yakima, Thomas Bongiorni, of Nine Mile Falls, WA, Elizabeth (Don) Price, of Burlington, WA; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great- great- grandchildren and two great- great-great-granchildren.
Newlyn's memorial was held on November 13, 2010. She was laid to rest with Henry at Bess Hampton Memorial Gardens in Othello, Washinton. Published in The Herald (Everett) on December 8, 2010
