A marble cutter by trade, Enrico was a native of Gallarate, Varese, Italy. Marrying Clementina Pasta, a seamstress in 1894, and fathered three children, Andrea, Mario and Carlo.

Enrico died of silicosis in 1907. His son Mario died a few years later at the young age of 10 in 1909, followed by Andrea in 1915. The youngest, Carlo, became a priest in 1925 and served as Military Chaplain of the Alpini during the Second World War. After the tragic experience of the war, he strove to ease the wounds of suffering and misery created by the war, devoting himself to the "mutilated" and to children invalids of war and civilians, establishing for them a vast network of colleges in many cities of Italy.

He was beatified on October 25, 2009, in Milan, by Cardinal Dionigi Tettamanzi. On June 21 of that year, Enrico's remains were reinterred in the Cemetery of Montesiro, beside his wife Clementina and his two sons, Andrea and Mario.
