*****
Origin of the Ronsholdt/Ronsholt Family and name, source; research work by Petra Jorgensen Ronsholdt, done in 1939.

Briefly; they originated at Stouby Sogn (parish) on Vejle Fjord, on the southeast coast of Jylland (Jutland). Stouby church records begin in 1685, so dates prior to that are estimates.

About 1625, a child named Christen was born in Stouby. He grew up, married ca 1650 and had a son, who was named Peder Christensen.

The European Mountain Ash, called the Rowan and in Danish, the Rown tree is called Rønnes. Holt is an archaic Danish word meaning little forest or stand of trees. So the stand of ash trees in Stouby Skov, which were cut for timber, was known a Rønnesholt.

Frands also grew up around Rønsholts krog. And, as far as can be determined, he is the first person who used the name Rønsholt. In the Stouby church register, he is sometimes referred to as Frands Pedersen and sometimes as Frands Rønsholt.

Peder Rønsholt's ancestors trace back to the Peder Frandsen branch of the family and the other Ronsholdt families in Racine descended from the Jorgen Frandsen line.
