Frances Albin (Fran), born in Roswell, OH, who was a Ventura County resident for many years, has passed away at age 95. Fran had maintained her cheerfulness and alertness until shortly before she left us. She was bringing humor, smiles and laughter to those around her, and industriously created works of art until nearly her final days. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to have known her.

Fran spent her early years in NY City. Later, she met her sweetheart, Milton Albin, a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy, in 1944 during World War II at a Red Cross dance in London. Fran, a Sergeant in the U. S. Women's Army Corps, helped ensure the highest medical care for troops wounded in European Operations. They returned to Brooklyn, NY from Europe, and their son, David, was born. For the next several years, Fran operated a thriving retail store while Milt was recalled to active military duty in 1951-52 during the Korean War.

The family moved to the San Fernando Valley in CA in 1953, where Fran worked as a legal stenographer until their daughter, Andrea, was born in 1958. Fran and Milt were married for almost 30 years until Milt passed away in 1974. Fran always focused her life's energies on being sure her children were provided for, were well educated, and appreciated the arts.

At age 90, Fran took up oil painting at the Senior Center in Thousand Oaks, and thrilled her family and friends by creating dozens of fine paintings over the next 5 years. Not only did Fran excel in her art activities, she delighted many people by singing and learning to play the ukulele, an activity she also took up in her 90's.

Fran is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Tessy Albin, and by her daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Wayne Williams, and her granddaughter, Nalani Williams.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests your considered support of the Disabled American Veterans at www.dav.org or the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org.

Fran will be laid to rest with Military Honors at the LA National Cemetery, 950 S. Sepulveda Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90049, at 1:30 pm on Tuesday July 3, 2012. A 'Celebration Of Her Life' will be announced at a later date.
