Howard A. Ekdahl
---Howard A. Ekdahl, age 53, of Marshall, died at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo on Thursday morning, October 14, 1999, after a short illness.
---Mr. Ekdahl was born February 17, 1946 in Marshall to Glen H. and Evelyn V. (Coleman) Ekdahl. He had lived in Marshall all of his life, and was a 1965 graduate of Marshall High School. He worked at State Farm Regional Office in Marshall for 29 years as a maintenance specialist. He had worked at Ronan and Kunzl for many years prior to that, and also for a short time at Eaton's. He was married in August of 1965 to Dawn R. Coats. Their marriage later ended in divorce.
---Mr. Ekdahl was a well known local presence on the Citizens Band radio, using the handles "Baby Huey" or "Swede". He was a meticulous builder of model cars. He also enjoyed the Upper Peninsula, and fishing in the quarry at Manistique where he regularly caught large fish that he was told he couldn't catch there. Most of all, he enjoyed his roll as grandfather, spending much of his free time with his grandchildren.
---Surviving are his daughter, Jill Ann (Clyde) Lampkin of Albion; a son, Jim Ekdahl of Union City; four grandchildren, Allison, Keegan, Brittany and Morgan; his parents, Glen H. and Evely V. Ekdahl of Marshall; a sister, Judy (Ron) Borowitz of Marshall; a brother, Jerry (Cynthia) Ekdahl of Battle Creek; and nieces and nephews.
---Friends may call at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home on Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral. The family will be present at the funeral home to receive visitors on Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services celebrating Howard's life will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Linda Burson of Lyon Lake United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Porter Cemetery. friends[sic] who wish may make memorial contributions to Lyon Lake United Methodist Church or to the family. Assistance with memorials is available at the funeral home.
