Published in Merced Sun Star - Merced, CA on March 4, 2011 - Henry Clayton "Steve" Maddux was born on August 25th of 1920 in Del Rio, Texas to the late Joseph and Hildreth (Crawford) Maddux and passed away on Friday, February 28th of 2011 at the Mercy Medical Center in Merced, California at the age of 90. Henry enlisted in the United States Navy and was a Pearl Harbor survivor, during his active duty he received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star among others. He worked as a Road and Trail Foreman for 26 years. Henry is survived by his wife Vernadine R. Maddux, his daughter Sharon Davis, his step-son Joseph Onzo. Also surviving Henry are his grandchildren Deborah Sligar, Dawn Seymour, David W. Sligar Jr., Daniel Sligar, Genne Beth Onzo and Andrew Onzo. A graveside service to honor Henry will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, March 7th of 2011 at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery located at 32053 West McCabe Road in Gustine, California with Full Military Honors to be provided by the local American Legion Post # 83 and the United States Navy Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Henry's name to the Son's and Daughter's of Pearl Harbor Survivors at 36675 Giles Road in Grafton, Ohio 44044-9124 (be sure to include your name and address for recognition).
