"Stephen Bond was born in Lake county, Ind., Sept. 8, 1843, and died at his home eight miles southwest of Skidmore, Mo., Feb. 7, 1917 being 73 years 5 months and 9 days old.
He was married to Elizabeth Brinson Apr. 2, 1862 at Oregon, Mo. To this union nine children were born. Three, Emma, Edward and Julia dying in infancy.
The living children are Mrs. Anna Mary Stafford, Wilton, Cal.; Nancy Frances Hilderbran, McPherson, Kan.; Rebecca Luella Norvell, Lookeba, Okla.; William Sedley, Lucinda Mary, and Elva Rilla are all at home.
His parents died when he was about eight years old and after this he made his home with his uncle near Oregon, Mo. He lived near here for three years after his marriage, then moved to Bolckow, Andrew County, Mo., for several years, then moved to his farm and has lived there 46 years.
He joined the Christian Advent church in 1878. He believed in God and that those who live righteous lives will inherit eternal life.
During his illness he admonished his children to be good children and live peaceably with their neighbors. He lived a quiet, unassuming life every day, was always a good neighbor and friend to the needy. He took the stand for the right things of life and lived up to it. Thus one by one the old landmarks are passing away.
Besides his wife and children he leaves thirteen grandchildren and one brother, John Bond of LaPryor, Texas to mourn his loss. He was the youngest of a family of four children. His brother George and sister Mary Ann have preceded him.
Funeral services were held at the home Saturday, Feb. 10, 1917 at 11 o'clock conducted by Rev. Reubin Barrett. Interment in the Burr Oak cemetery."
