The Sacramento Bee (Sacramento, California) 11 Jan 1975, Saturday Page 4: Obituaries. Chico Resident, Oliva Brown, At 104. CHICO – Funeral services for Oliva Brown, who would have been 105 years old in March, will be held at 11 a.m. today in the Chico Funeral Home. Mrs. Brown died Thursday in a local convalescent hospital.

A native of Michigan, she had operated boarding houses in Michigan and in Portola, Plumas County. She also farmed with her first husband, Seth Kimball McCollum, whom she married when she was 15. She also had worked for the Feather River Lumber Co. McCollum died in 1920.

In 1924, she married a Portola painter and decorator, Henry Brown, and they moved to Chico in 1932. He preceded her in death in 1960.

Mrs. Brown was a 40-year member of the United Spanish War Veterans Auxiliary. Survivors include a foster daughter Hazel Gard of Sacramento, and several nieces and nephews.
