During the early 1960s, Edgar & Ruby purchased from Jesse & Marie Sizelove the Mobil Gas Station in Gate, OK & operated it until they purchased Edgar's parents' farm circa 1963; during this period Edgar also served as the substitute rural mail carrier in Gate, OK.
In 1967, Edgar & Ruby added the Neil & Dora Luckie farm to their farming operation; it was on this farm that Edgar passed away. Edgar was preceded in death by his parents, Emra & Elizabeth (Harvey) Newby, two brothers--Max & Cecil, his sister Pearl & his daughter, Linda Jo (Elwood).
Edgar loved horses; he raised & trained quarter horses for 40+ years. Edgar possessed a keen mind & an inherent gift of mechanics & engineering; he could disassemble the most complex of agricultural equipment such as a combine transmission, repair it & reassemble it without instruction or assistance; he was a self-taught engineer.
Edgar was a good and generous man who is greatly missed by his family & those who knew him.
