He was survived by his wife, Darline (Ard) Sumpter (married December 17, 1949 in Somerset, Kentucky); his son, H.C. Sumpter of Nancy, Kentucky; his daughters, Cathy Burkett and Lesia Sumpter, both of Nancy, Kentucky; his brothers, Harold Sumpter and Arlis Sumpter, both of Nancy, Kentucky; and his sister, Jenny (Sumpter) Muse of Somerset, Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville Sumpter and Ella (Dawes) Sumpter; and his brother, Lindsey Sumpter.
DAV services were held at the Pulaski Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at the Pulaski Funeral Home with Reverend Larry Perkins and Reverend Oscar Lobb officiating.
