Graveside services for Gerald Wayne Briley will be held at 1:00 PM today Wednesday August 31 2005 at Highland Memorial Gardens conducted by Bro. Mark McSwain with Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Gerald passed away Monday afternoon at his home after a two year battle with cancer.

Gerald was born September 6 1945 to the late James and Willie Sue Pirtle Briley. He was raised in Bemis. He was a friend to all and never met a stranger. His hobbies included woodcrafting fishing boating golfing and playing the guitar. Gerald graduated from South Side High School in 1963 went to work for Five Points Lumber Company then Owens Corning Fiberglass where he worked for eighteen years before the plant closed. He later worked at Garner Automotive in Whiteville as Purchaser for a couple of years. He was also employed by Tennalum as Purchaser from 1989-2005. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Bemis. His faith in God sustained him and gave him peace throughout his long ordeal with cancer. His Christian witness was seen and felt by everyone he came in contact with. He was one to always find humor in any situation. God blessed Gerald with the gift of helping anyone in need whatever the situation.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife four brothers and two sisters. He also leaves a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters Lucille Ward and Marcella Wooley.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society or the First Baptist Church Bemis Life Center.

Special thanks to the Radiology Department at General Hospital and Hospice of West Tennessee for their special care and concerns for Gerald. Your loving companions Beverly and two precious pets Brittany and Mimi.
